Opportunity knocking to rebuild America's cities

The economic-stimulus package provides an opportunity to rebuild America's cities on the same scale as the Works Progress Administration undertook during the Great Depression. Cities such as New Orleans and Los Angeles suffer from dysfunctional urban planning, while parts of Detroit have become ghost towns due to job losses in the auto industry. The challenge for city planners remains to provide public transportation, affordable housing and parks while maintaining a city's neighborhoods and identity.
