Study: Boys who are gifted are more likely to play dumb

British children who are gifted intentionally fall behind in school to avoid bullying, according to an education professor's research on 12- and 13-year-olds in nine schools. Boys in particular were under more pressure to "dumb down" to become popular, which may partly account for the perceived gender gap, said researcher Becky Francis.
