Equity firm says it will spend billions on rival LTE net

Harbinger Capital Partners intends to build an LTE-based 4G wireless network across most of the U.S. within five years using satellite-controlled spectrum in hopes of operating as a broad wholesaler of mobile frequencies. The private-equity firm filed its plans with the FCC on Friday as it looks to exploit the 100 MHz of spectrum collectively held by the satellite companies.
