Microsoft takes Google head-on for office dominance

There had been little competition for the Office software until Google arrived touting free software, and now the search titan's low-cost online applications are gaining ground in the workplace. So Microsoft will launch Web features and a free, online version supported by advertising as a way to stay competitive.
