Race to the Top funds awarded to Delaware, Tennessee

Delaware and Tennessee have been chosen to receive Race to the Top funds in the first round of awards, federal officials announced Monday. Delaware will receive as much as $107 million and Tennessee will receive up to $502 million -- each having passed laws to support broad education-reform efforts that drew statewide support. The states were selected from among 41 applicants hoping to share $4 billion in federal grants. Nonwinning states are eligible to submit proposals by June 1 for a second round of grants that will assign the remaining $3.4 billion.
