Senators meet again with industry leaders on compromise climate bill

Key senators working on a compromise for climate legislation met with oil and gas industry leaders for the second time in a week, with a bill slated to be unveiled in time for Earth Day on April 22. Sen. Joe Lieberman, I-Conn., said the bill will aim to reduce U.S. carbon emissions from 2005 levels by 17% by 2020. Other issues remain, such as the push from big oil companies to allow states, not the federal government, to regulate hydraulic-fracturing practices for harvesting natural gas.
