DNA test can detect organ rejection in heart transplant patients

Researchers reported in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences that they have developed a genetic test that can detect organ rejection in patients who undergo a heart transplant by looking for the presence of DNA fragments from the organ donor in the recipient's blood. Although clinical trials are needed to prove its efficacy, doctors hope the DNA sequencing-based test someday could spot transplant rejection in other organ recipients.
