Enhanced ICU cleaning reduces MRSA, VRE cases, study finds

A study in the Archives of Internal Medicine found that a program for improved cleaning of intensive care unit rooms previously occupied by patients with methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus or vancomycin-resistant enterococci reduced cases of infection with the drug-resistant bacteria. The researchers said that more studies are needed to assess whether enhanced cleaning has different effects on MRSA and VRE cases.
