Local officials push back against population estimates

Many U.S. towns and cities plan to challenge new Census data they say undercounts their populations, jeopardizing the communities' political clout and ability to qualify for federal cash. New York, Atlanta, Detroit and Miami are among the major cities who claim the Census dramatically underestimated their populations, perhaps by failing to accurately count housing vacancies.
