Sources: Foxconn-Sharp alliance could be good for Taiwan chip firms

The close ties between Foxconn and Sharp, key suppliers to Apple, may prove to be to the benefit of Taiwanese chipmakers, DigiTimes reports, citing industry sources. MediaTek and MStar might see more orders for digital television chips as a result, while Novatek, Ilitek and Fitipower could see more business for their LCD driver ICs from the Foxconn-Sharp tie-up, especially since Renesas is pulling out of the large-size LCD driver chip market, those sources said.
