Starbucks gets weird to woo the Web

Under the guidance of Alex Wheeler, Starbucks' global head of digital marketing, the coffee chain has launched some decidedly quirky online campaigns in recent months. Among the highlights: a two-week online scavenger hunt conducted in partnership with Lady Gaga; an augmented-reality application allowing customers to discover animated characters by pointing mobile devices at their coffee cup; and a contest in which participants competed to bring the Pumpkin Spice Latte to their hometowns.
