Alabama city looks to improve skills of aviation workforce

With the scheduled groundbreaking of a new Airbus assembly plant drawing closer, business leaders in Mobile, Ala., are concerned about how to bridge the skill gaps in the local workforce. "What keeps me up is the realization that all the new aircraft are going toward composite structures. What we really need to start infusing is bond instruction and a lot more emphasis on bond work because you can’t just take a good airframe mechanic and turn them into a bond mechanic with a little tweaking," said Ken Berga of UTC Aerospace Systems' Aerostructures.
