Clearwire makes LTE move, names Houston as 28th market

Clearwire and Sprint Nextel added Houston to the list of markets where they will build their WiMAX network even as Clearwire began to hedge its bets on the 4G technology as part of a group looking to eventually deploy TD-LTE-based wireless technology. Clearwire is part of a consortium of vendors and carriers that has made a request to the 3rd Generation Partnership Project, or 3GPP, to create specs to allow TD-LTE to operate in the same 2.6-GHz spectrum used by WiMAX.
