ATA praises administration for biofuel leadership

In an effort to cut oil imports by one-third, President Barack Obama has ordered the Navy to join the Departments of Energy and Agriculture "to work with the private sector to create advanced biofuels that can power not just fighter jets, but trucks and commercial airliners." Noting the promise of switchgrass, wood chips and biomass, Obama said the federal government will "help entrepreneurs break ground on four next-generation biorefineries" in the next two years, each capable of producing more than 20 million gallons a year. ATA President and CEO Nicholas Calio applauded the Obama initiative, adding that the industry looks forward to "stepping up our work with the USDA, DOE and the nation's military in furthering advanced biofuels development and deployment."
