Illinois courts gay tourists in advance of 2006 Gay Games

With Gay Games VII expected to draw 12,000 athletes to Chicago in July 2006, the Illinois Bureau of Tourism is intent on wooing affluent gay and lesbian travelers. "We will promote ... Chicago and Illinois ... as gay-friendly destinations," said one bureau official. "We want to get the city on the radar screen." The marketing effort kicks off in August with a junket for the gay press.
