Hawaii ranks 49th for NCLB progress

Only 34% of Hawaii schools made "adequate yearly progress" last year, placing the state behind all but Florida, where 28% of schools made AYP, according to a preliminary report from the U.S. Department of Education. Hawaii officials noted had the threshold for AYP not risen so sharply this year, nearly 70% of schools would have met the standard.
