WTO panel to rule in favor of U.S., Canada in beef dispute

A World Trade Organization panel today is expected to uphold a decision that the EU failed to thoroughly evaluate the risks of beef treated with the hormone oestradiol 17b before permanently prohibiting its use in meat products for consumption. The ruling lets the U.S. and Canada keep sanctions on European products such as truffles, Roquefort cheese and Dijon mustard that were imposed in retaliation to the ban.
