CDC official: Public health reform critical to universal health plan

Overhauling the public health system is vital to the success of the legislative push for universal health insurance, said Richard Besser, CDC's acting director. "We will continue to bear a huge economic burden for treating preventable diseases if we don't make prevention and wellness a cornerstone of a reformed system," Besser said at a House committee hearing.
