Green building costs can be recouped

The cost of building green construction can usually be recouped through lower long-term costs such as reduced utility bills. Green construction incurs higher upfront costs because of increased design time, but the average costs are only 2% to 5% higher than traditional buildings. However, green buildings can save up to $71.31 per square foot in net present value over 20 years for a gold or platinum LEED building.
