Guatemala drives out river blindness

Persistent education efforts and distribution of anti-parasitic drugs combined with firm political will have all but eradicated an epidemic river blindness in Guatemala. It might signal an end to the disease in the Americas for good, according to two studies published in the Public Library of Science journal PLoS Neglected Tropical Diseases.
