IAB: 2008 Internet ad spend up 10.6%

The latest report on Internet advertising from the Interactive Advertising Bureau and PricewaterhouseCoopers found $23.4 billion was spent on Internet advertising in 2008, up 10.6% from the year before. Spending in the digital video category shot up from $324 million in 2007 to $734 million in 2008. And ads from CPG companies grew from $925 million in 2007 to $1.5 billion in 2008. Online ad growth did slow to 2.8% in the fourth quarter, but as PricewaterhouseCoopers partner David Silverman pointed out, "It's one of the few things that actually grew in the fourth quarter 2008."
