Senator wants to protect banks from check-imaging patent suit

Senate Judiciary Committee member Jon Kyl, R-Ariz., is proposing an amendment to the patent system that would protect banks from being pulled into a patent-infringement lawsuit related to electronic imaging and processing of checks. In a lawsuit, DataTreasury has named Bank of America and Wells Fargo as defendants, while other banks, including JPMorgan Chase, have settled the claims. Wells Fargo directed inquiries on the lawsuit and the proposed amendment to the Financial Services Roundtable, which declined comment.
