Broadcasters protest aid to heavy-bandwidth users

TV station groups are gearing up to fight the FCC's plan to provide wireless carriers with more spectrum, saying the government should not assist an industry whose smartphone devices are using more than their share of bandwidth. The groups -- Ion Media Networks, Nexstar Broadcasting Group, Sinclair Broadcast Group and LIN TV -- assert that they need the spectrum to provide mobile-TV service. The FCC's plan would compensate the stations for their spectrum.
