E-Verify grows, but use comes with obligations

Companies in Tennessee and across the nation are signing up in droves for the federal government's E-Verify database, which helps confirm if workers can legally work in the U.S. But the program comes with some obligations, a small-business trade group notes. Business owners must keep copies of employee documents and be prepared for a federal review of them, said Karen Harned, executive director of the National Federation of Independent Business's Small Business Legal Center.
