FDA, EU clear Eastman's new plasticizer for wider application

Eastman Chemical's 168 nonphthalate plasticizer material has secured food-contact clearance from the Food and Drug Administration and European Union after the company has demonstrated that its product can easily replace some widely used ortho-phthalate products, which are under regulatory scrutiny for possible health effects. Eastman has also made adjustments to increase capacity as well as ease the bottleneck in its manufacturing line, enabling it to increase production of such plasticizers as consumer demand for the material increases.
