Report: Europe could run on 100% renewable energy by 2050

The European Union could get all of its energy from renewable sources by 2050, according to a report from PricewaterhouseCoopers. The study suggests that a combination of African solar farms, North Sea wind farms and Alpine hydroelectric plants could make carbon-based fuels obsolete by midcentury -- but warns that the shift would require a major overhaul of the electrical grid.
