California reviews disaster preparedness strategies

California is reviewing its own preparedness strategies as fears of a disaster such the earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan become more pronounced. State and local officials have learned lessons from Japan and New Zealand and will incorporate them into their disaster-response plans. Some activities they will focus on include seismic retrofitting for older buildings, more stringent reinforcement of building codes, and providing more public information about what to do in case of an earthquake.
