Evergreens: Easy care, minimal pruning

Most evergreens only need to be pruned when they have outgrown the area where they are planted or when their branches have died, says Doris Taylor, manager of the Plant Clinic at the Morton Arboretum in Illinois. Evergreens should be trimmed according to their natural branching pattern, because overdoing it could cause bald patches, Taylor added.
