Faculty offer tips for nurses seeking academic jobs

Even with a need for more nursing faculty, landing a job is not a given, and nurses who want these positions must know and be ready to meet the needs of the academic institution they choose, according to Regina Cusson, dean of the University of Connecticut School of Nursing, and Associate Professor Thomas Lawrence Long. Knowing how to conduct online and in-person interviews is important, and nurses should understand how research is conducted, they write. Every interview and all communication from the application letter and curriculum vitae onward should demonstrate an understanding of the academic culture.
