Mars, U.S. institute to study health effect of cocoa flavanols

The U.S. National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute and chocolate manufacturer Mars Inc. are teaming up for a five-year research project to evaluate whether cocoa flavanols reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease. The study's 18,000 participants will consume either two cocoa flavanol capsules or two placebos daily for four years.
