When donkeys fly

Thirty-three teams from universities and companies around the world will compete to show how drones might rise to the challenge of cargo-hauling needs in far-flung lesser-developed regions. The Flying Donkey Challenge, scheduled for November, is sponsored by Swiss nonprofit La Fondation Bundi. "Multidisciplinary teams of engineers, designers, lawyers, regulators and business partners will be collaborating to demonstrate the benefits and promote the acceptance of flying donkeys -- cargo robots with a maximum takeoff weight of 60 kilos that could play a crucial role in the future of logistics," said challenge Director Simon Johnson.
