Students from McCormick Junior High School in Cheyenne, Wyo., this summer will travel to Washington, D.C., to learn more about U.S. history. Social studies teacher Anne Christopherson said the tour and meetings with U.S. lawmakers will help students connect what they have learned in class and in their social studies club. Christopherson said a past trip to the Washington area included a visit to Arlington National Cemetery in nearby Virginia. "There wasn't a student who didn't come back changed or didn't have their eyes opened. Freedom isn't free, and they can see that," she said.
