Obesity concerns move research to front burner

Long viewed as more of an aesthetic problem than a health issue, obesity has suffered from a lack of serious research and one NIH expert dubs the field a "backwater of science." But as the numbers of overweight Americans soar to 64% and 400,000 dying annually from obesity-related causes, the issue is getting more attention and the Bush administration is seeking a 10% increase in funding for obesity research.
