ADHD drugs do not appear to raise substance abuse risk

Children who take ADHD drugs do not seem to have a greater risk of developing drug or alcohol abuse later in life, two studies conclude. One study found boys who took Ritalin at ages 6 or 7 had a 27% rate of drug abuse as young adults, compared with a 29% rate among a group of young men who did not have ADHD or take the drug.
