Albany port approves lease for ethanol plant

The Port District Commission of Albany, N.Y., on Monday approved plans to lease 18 acres of port land for a $240 million ethanol plant that could produce up to 110 million gallons of biofuel annually. "This may end up the largest [ethanol production] plant on the East Coast," said commission Chairman Robert Cross. When completed, the plant will employ up to 60 full-time workers and could nearly double the annual volume of cargo at the port.
