Merck obesity drug sees success in late-stage trials

Merck & Co. says its experimental obesity drug taranabant helped patients in a late-stage clinical trial lose more than twice as much weight as participants who took a placebo. The pharmaceutical company says it will not include higher doses of the drug in future studies, however, because of increased rates of nausea and psychiatric side effects.
