Olympic Aquatics Center roof presents complex engineering challenge

Lifting the wave-shaped roof of the 2012 Olympics Aquatics Center in London is among the biggest construction challenges faced by the Olympic Development Authority. Workers have already placed a steel truss on top of the southern wall of the center. The truss connects with the first sections of 15 steel trusses that will form the roof base. Officials hope the roof, which is designed to resemble the fluidity of water, becomes an iconic image of the 2012 Olympic Games.
