A plan to use $11 million in economic-stimulus funds to pay for a bridge to connect two Microsoft campuses in Washington State has raised concerns about how the stimulus funds are spent. Critics say the bridge is a company project and should not receive federal funds. Supporters describe it as a public-private partnership that will benefit the community. They also note that the funding will create almost 400 jobs. At this point, Microsoft is paying for a little less than half of the $36 million bridge, officials say.
