Fed's $1.25 trillion program for MBS purchases draws to a close

The Federal Reserve's program for buying mortgage-backed securities, the biggest intervention to buoy the economy, ended Wednesday. Susan Wachter, a professor of real estate and finance at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, called the program "the single most important move to stabilize the economy and to prevent a debacle."
