Darker pigeons prove healthier than lighter-feathered peers

Scientists studying 195 pigeons living in urban areas discovered that those with higher levels of darker pigmentation were better equipped to fight off infections than lighter birds. Researchers are studying two hypotheses to explain why birds of the same species can be colored so differently, and hope to discover whether the answer lies in environment or evolution.
