New claims for unemployment in U.S. stay below 400,000 threshold

Many economists said the U.S. labor market improves only if first-time claims for unemployment benefits stay below 400,000. A weekly Labor Department report says that's what's happening. Last week, the number was a seasonally adjusted 388,000, the government said.
