Pratt & Whitney will supply 300 engines to an Indian airline

Indian discount airline IndiGo ordered 300 geared-turbofan engines from Pratt & Whitney to power its Airbus A320neos craft. Pratt & Whitney said it has more than 1,200 orders for the PurePower engine, one of two options being offered for the upgraded jet. With growing demand for military and civilian engines, the company could be producing more than 1,000 engines a year by 2016. "Last time we did 1,000 engines, it was 1983," President David Hess said.
