PVC13 appears effective for preventing childhood pneumonia

The pneumococcal 13-valent conjugate vaccine offered children aged 5 years and younger a higher level of protection against community-acquired pneumonia than PCV7 and PCV10, according to an Italian study in the Pediatric Infectious Disease Journal. PCV13 is the only vaccine that can protect against the serotype 19A pneumococcal strain, researchers said.
