Vendors use farmers markets as a springboard

Three Baltimore Farmers' Market vendors have launched brick-and-mortar food businesses from their once-a-week stands, including Savory Bean Soups owner Eula McDowell. Experts say such markets are a proven stepping stone for would-be restaurateurs and food retailers. "It's actually a viable part of a business expansion plan," said Virgina Schwarzenbach of the North American Farmers' Direct Marketing Association.
