Study: Regular PPI dose is effective in patients with higher BMI

Proton pump inhibitor therapy at regular dosages relieves gastroesophageal reflux disease and erosive esophagitis symptoms regardless of BMI, University of Virginia researchers report. Patients with higher BMI who had more severe erosive esophagitis got more benefit from dexlansoprazole than patients with the lowest BMI, but results were about the same for patients with nonerosive GERD, regardless of patients' BMI, the researchers report.
