Industry asked to report near-miss incidents in offshore operations

The Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement is asking the oil and natural gas industry to report close calls at its offshore facilities, as this data can help avert larger-scale accidents in the future. The bureau assured energy companies that the data will not be used for enforcement actions against them. "The voluntary, confidential near-miss reporting system has the potential to help prevent catastrophic incidents that endanger lives and the environment," said BSEE Director Brian Salerno.
