Report: Bio-based material production capacity to rise steadily through 2017

Biochemical and bio-based material production capacity is projected to more than double by 2017, but the majority will still come from traditional sources such as corn and sugar cane, according to Lux Research. Intermediate chemicals will account for the biggest growth in biochemical output capacity, rising to 4.9 million metric tons by 2017, Lux said. Meanwhile, bio-based polymer production capacity is expected to expand 18% annually through 2017.
