Study finds barriers to staph prevention

A study in the American Journal of Infection Control identified factors that hinder efforts to prevent the transmission of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus. The obstacles can include other patient care demands, unavailability of equipment and lack of signage indicating high-risk patients. Clearer isolation protocols may be needed in addition to improved education and communication.
