Retail outlets use sound beams to target shoppers

Retail outlets are using laserlike sound beams to pinpoint individual shoppers to encourage buying with recorded messages. Called Hypersonic Sound, the technology is being tested at Safeway's Fremont, Calif., store, but obstacles abound, however, as the technology is expensive and has kinks in reliability and production.
