Coalition seeks FDA timeline for device identification ruling

The Advancing Patient Safety Coalition has sent FDA Commissioner Andrew von Eschenbach a letter requesting a timeline for a ruling that would require a unique identification system for medical devices. The proposed system "will improve patient safety while increasing efficiency for manufacturers by reducing the potential for counterfeit products being used on a patient," the group said.
